Dribbling and Ball Control

Most moves are worthless unless the player can get the ball under control and have the right spacing between himself and the ball. These cone drills promote disciplined ball control using each leg and each surface of the foot.    In order to go through smoothly the player needs to have good touches with each foot.

Difficulty can be increased by decreasing the space between the cones and increasing foot speed.

These drills can be tricky so try them first WITHOUT the cones.  When you are ready for the cones lay ~6 cones in a straight line about 4 feet apart.
Cone Drills Instruction Like This Let's See You Do It
Inside Outside Dribble the ball around the cones by alternating touches between the inside and outside of the right foot.  Each touch should push the ball to the other side of the cones while you shift your body weight by hopping with the standing leg.  Once through the field of cones turn around and come back using the other foot. Inside & Outside
Slalom Dribble the ball around the cones by alternating touches and then alternating feet.  On the left side of the cones use the left foot, outside then inside, pushing the ball to and through the cones, then touch the ball with the right foot outside away from the cones, and then back through with the inside. Slalom
The Roll Touch the ball forward with the inside of the foot then roll across the body to the other side of the cones.  Repeat this with the other foot on the next set of cones. Roll
Inside Cut Touch the ball forward with the inside of the foot.  Just before the next cone, hit the ball with the inside of the same foot, straight across your body to your other foot.  This "pass to your other foot" can be tricky. You need to pass the ball at the same time your standing leg shifts your body weight to the other side and then traps the ball on the other side. Cut
